Influencing
factors on Employee Motivation
The
development of firms may lie upon several factors inclusive of human capital
residing crucial role in the development perspective. Therefore, improvement of
the quality of the human resources will be key factor for the rising demand
from time to time
As
stated by Lee, et al.(2021) Employee
motivation can get affected by many aspects and those influencing factors can
be categorized into three aspects.
- Human
Related factors
- External
Factors
- Work-nature
related factors.
In
the aspect of human related factors, human’s intrinsic values such as person’s
benefits and income, personal goals and objectives, skills, attitudes and
abilities are taken into the consideration
Expanding
the ideology of Lee, et al.(2021) on the concept
of factors affecting employee motivation, Perry & Porter (1992) has
introduced four factors that has an direct impact on the employee motivation of
an entity, namely, Individual characteristics, Job characteristics, work
environment characteristics and external characteristics.
Following are the factors that affect employee motivation.
·
Rewards and benefits
Monetary
benefits such as salary and other total incentive package have acted as the
most motivating factor of employees
·
Development & Growth
Proper
training and development, skills development, providing growth opportunities as
an entity to its employee is a major source of employee motivation where it
provides the ability to achieve self-actualization goals and self-esteem of
employees
·
Job satisfaction
As
defined by Cole & Kelly (2011) job
satisfaction is an attitude of a person or a internal state that is related
with the working environment of the employee and the working experiences. A
significant positive relationship among the job satisfaction and employee
motivation is found by Wanjihia (2016) and
supported by the conslusion of research carried out by Hosseini (2014) on the
topic of Factors affecting employee motivation.
·
Employee empowerment
Employee
empowerment is a key concern in retaining the skilled labor in the business
which grants the authority to employees to making decisions relating to their
job, giving them power and authority combined to responsibility and
accountability
·
Supervisor relations and
communication
A
good communication between the operational employees and the immediate
supervisor is a reason that causes the work satisfaction. A bad relationship or
bad feelings related to supervisory staff of employees may result a drop in
employee performance and to lack of motivation within employees

Hello Shashith, I agreed with above post. In addition to above, employee motivation is influenced by work life balance. Studies show that support in the form of flexibility from an organization to balance work-life can lead to motivation and satisfaction at work. (Rahman M. F, 2020)
ReplyDeleteHi Dumindu, I totally agree with your statement, Findings of studies revealed that personal life significantly affect the work. Majority of the respondents prefer flexible work and operating from home. Interestingly, females are more eager to work from home in comparison to males (Oktosatrio,2018)
